3 reasons to vote for Kim Fischer

Kim Fischer

Strong

I have a long track record of being a fearless advocate for the people that I represent and for causes that I believe in. In the last 12 months this has included:

  • Getting the Secretary of the Department of Immigration to go on the record about his plans to move thousands of jobs out of Belconnen to the airport
  • Fighting hard for local control over development of any developments at the CSIRO Ginninderra Field Station site
  • Providing submissions in support of improving recreational facilities in Kippax at West Belconnen
  • Lobbying for improvements on behalf of residents, many of which have now been adopted as part of the Labor platform for the 2016 election.

Experienced

I’ve lived in Belconnen for 15 years and have held a range of executive roles in numerous community organisations as well as small business.

With postgraduate qualifications in business and communications, as well as 5 years working as a senior government adviser for the Stanhope government, I know the issues facing the ACT and Belconnen and how government works here. Portfolios I have been responsible for include:

  • Disability and Housing
  • Territory and Municipal Services
  • Multicultural Affairs
  • Ageing
  • Corrections
  • Education

Effective

Over the course of this campaign, I have doorknocked over 8000 houses and raised 350 issues with the ACT government on behalf of local residents. Some of the great results for Belconnen include:

  • Shopping centre and playground upgrades in Florey, Page, and Higgins
  • The Belco Bikeway along College Street
  • The Florey wetlands and waterways project
  • Improved criteria for upgrading smaller shops like Weetangera and Hawker
  • Improved road resealing processes adopted from 2017
  • Construction of full duplication of Aikman Drive
  • Upgraded intersections at Kuringa Drive/Owen Dixon Drive and Springvale Drive/Belconnen Way
  • Improved cycling routes and a revitalised Lathlain Street as part of the Belconnen Town Centre Master Plan
  • Rollout of green bins in Belconnen from mid-2018

Additionally, as an active and non-factional member of the ACT branch of the Labor party, I am determined to work within the ALP to ensure that it lives up to its ideals.
